THE BEGINNING

Hello Unspecified Audience!

My name is Cathy and I'm one of the co-founders of Unspecified Studios.

First off, a massive thank you to everyone who's been following our journey as we build KOI: Kingdom of Influence. We have received so much love and support which encourages our team to work incredible hard on this game. I hope you will be able to feel the love and care we have been putting into this game soon.

What Have We Been Working On?

Unspecified Studio started off with a lot of brainstorming and a lot of planning. I focused my efforts to giving a clearer picture of KOI. Brainstorming and planning was probably the longest part in all of this but with the core concepts down we started to build a proof of concept.

With Venture Studios at Northern Arizona University, I began using Loveable.ai to get simple mechanics completed. I was hoping to have a visual. Although it wasn't quite what I was imagining, it was something quick and easy to have some sort of playable game.

After a meeting with the team and sending them Loveable.ai example, we were able to get started on a lot. We ended deciding to use Godot and free assets (https://kenney.nl/) because of a deadline in early May  which involves a relatively completed prototype for Demo Day. We have moveable character in a 3rd person perspective and some environmental/world assets.

Behind the Scenes: Godot

Our development team is new to Godot. A good amount of us knows how to use Unity and have created a couple of games on Unity.

So why Godot?

I thought it would be a good idea to use Godot as it was open source and easier to use in comparison to programs like Unity and Unreal. At least for me, using Unity or Unreal took up a lot of my storage and Godot didn't. Godot also runs faster than Unity. Being so lightweight and fast, I felt as though it was perfect for our timeline.

The idea is that our deadline of May will not be the finished game but more of proof of concept for future production.

What's Coming Next?

We have officially started producing a prototype! So hopefully you'll see character creations, world building, and more. We are taking it step by step and putting in as much work as we can as a team but we are all students with jobs so it might take us a bit for development.

I hope you'll stay for our journey because we have a lot to show.

-Cathy Ly
